Brian Neville, Ph.D. Dr. Neville is a clinical psychologist who joined ABCD in 2013. He began his own private practice in 2001, prior to which he worked at the Center on Human Development and Disability, providing clinical services and conducting research. His approach to psychotherapy is generally cognitive-behavioral, but integrates mindfulness and interpersonal perspectives, and draws from the latest knowledge in neuroscience. He provides biofeedback and neurofeedback to people who need help learning to self-regulate, which is often the case with anxiety and ADHD, as well as other problems such as mood disorders and headaches. He also has equipment to provide virtual reality exposure therapy for people with specific phobias. All of these approaches involve learning to become aware of your patterns of thinking, feeling and interacting, and finding alternatives to these patterns which allow new learning. He works with children, adolescents, and adults who have a variety of problems, with a particular interest in attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder and anxiety. Different age groups require adjustments to the developmental level of the client. With younger children, the emphasis is more on behavior and relationships with parents, peers and teachers. With adolescents and adults, it shifts to more cognitive and relational interventions. When working with children, he works with both the child and parents to help facilitate change, although the amount of time spent with the child individually tends to increase with age.
