Melyssa Higgins, Ph.D. Academic Achievement Tests Academic achievement tests measure skills that are taught and practiced in school, most notably reading, written language, and math. These tests provide specific information about which skills a child has learned, and they also provide information about the student’s academic progress in relationship to what is typical for their grade-level. The battery of tests that Dr. Higgins will select depends on the age of the child and the questions that led to the evaluation. She is always seated alongside the student to provide clarification and encouragement. She makes an effort to alternate between academic tasks that the child prefers and academic tasks that they may find challenging.
